The Curacy at St. Andrew’s Church:

A Three-Year Journey of Servant Leadership

Are you called to shepherd the People of God in the Anglican tradition? St. Andrew’s Church is seeking a dedicated, high-capacity individual for a three-year Curacy. This is more than a position; it is an immersive season of formation designed to prepare future presbyters for the complexities and joys of parish ministry.

A Heart to Serve

At St. Andrew’s, we believe that while skills can be taught, a humble willingness to serve is the work of the Holy Spirit in the heart. Our Curates adopt a Servant First mentality. From rocking babies in the nursery, to parking cars at our Easter service, or preaching in the pulpit, it’s always about serving him. Every ministry seeks to connect people to the presence and power of Jesus Christ.

Randy Forrester preaching Ministry of Word and Sacrament

During your curacy, you will be deeply integrated into the liturgical life of our multi-campus church. Your development will include:

  • Preaching: You will preach at our Mt. Pleasant, Charleston, and North Charleston campuses, receiving close mentorship and feedback to hone your craft.
  • Teaching: From leading Alpha and Confirmation classes to producing an original course for The Ridley Institute, you will become one of the voices in our Ministry of the Word.
  • Sacramental Leadership: You will learn to lead worship in both traditional and contemporary settings, conduct baptisms, and walk with families through the sacred milestones of weddings and funerals.

Practical Training and Governance

We believe in teaching the things you don’t learn in seminary. In your first year, you will shadow every major department leader—from Communications to Worship—in order to understand how a large church functions. You will also engage in church governance by attending Vestry meetings, reviewing financial reports, and representing St. Andrew’s at the Diocesan level.

Candidate Requirements

Our ideal candidate is a confident self-starter with high emotional intelligence who is ordained or seeking ordination as a presbyter in the Anglican Church in North America. Requirements include:

  • A completed seminary degree (MA or MDiv).
  • Full agreement with the Jerusalem Declaration as a faithful summary of biblical teaching.
  • Openness to the ongoing use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit as taught in 1 Corinthians 12-14.
  • A demonstrated commitment to evangelism, discipleship, and hospitality.
