The service is a time for deep reflection on the passion and crucifixion of Christ and of our own sinful nature. Stemming from Latin, the word “Tenebrae” means darkness, and this type of worship service dates back to the ninth century. Scripture readings will be punctuated by choral responses using familiar traditional hymns that also date back hundreds of years.
