What is the process by which Jesus reveals himself to a disciple? In the story of the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus, Jesus engages them in three ways:

In their pain – “counselor Jesus”
With the Scriptures – “teacher Jesus”
At a table – “host Jesus”
1. invitation
2. reversal of roles
3. community
