Kairos Arts Ministry is pleased to announce this hands-on workshop with Kurt Caddy, a certified Kintsugi Workshop leader. Kurt is the founder of Fourwinds Faith and Art, a ministry aimed at inspiring the church to engage with the arts in discipleship, worship, and evangelism. His works of art, fine art paintings and Kintsugi bowls, are currently on display in The Kairos Gallery at St. Andrew’s Church, Mount Pleasant.

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art that repairs broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. This technique not only fixes the item but also highlights its fractures, celebrating the object’s history and imperfections. Kintsugi, which translates to “golden joinery,” embodies the philosophy of wabi-sabi, embracing the beauty found in imperfection and the natural cycle of growth and decay.

Kurt’s workshops demonstrate Kintsugi’s powerful metaphor for redemption and healing. Just as the broken pottery is restored and made more beautiful through its cracks filled with gold, we are mended by God’s grace, the broken areas of our lives transformed into sources of strength and beauty. Our experiences and scars contribute to our unique stories, reminding us that even in brokenness, there is hope and beauty, and the possibility of becoming whole again, embracing and celebrating our journey, imperfections and all. Under Kurt’s watchful instruction and guidance, participants will create their own Kintsugi bowl to take home. All supplies are included in the workshop fee of $60 per person. The Workshops are held in Sams Hall at St. Andrew’s, Mount Pleasant. Space is limited to 25 people per workshop. Childcare is available for the afternoon session.
