Artist Statement
My concern is the broken human condition, surprised by the grace of God. The physicality of oil paint mixed with cold wax medium, often layered on gold leaf, is the process that allows me to create abstract paintings that deal with the transcendence of an eternally relevant story. I use literary tools such as motifs, metaphors, and antithesis in my visual story- telling to suggest universal themes of suffering, pilgrimage, and love. I am inspired by God’s Word, and attempt to integrate the word-image dichotomy which was truly brought together by Jesus, who is the Incarnate Word. God in his kindness has given us his sufficient and certain Word. The Incarnation and his written, inspired Word from Genesis to Revelation reveal to us the way of life!

About Grace Carol Bomer
Grace Carol Bomer is a Canadian-American abstract expressionist painter who maintains a studio in the mountains of North Carolina. With an English degree and six years of teaching experience, she infuses her work with poetic script, motifs, and metaphors, creating layered abstract narrative paintings. Her aesthetic language stems from her dual love for paint and the human story. She has studied art at UNC Asheville and abroad in Italy and Amsterdam.
Bomer has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. This exhibit coincides with two other solo shows: September – December at Bowie Gallery, Erskine College, Due West, S.C., and October – November at the Gallery of First Presbyterian Church, Asheville.
